US based, homeworker, contract position, to start ASAP

Mobile World Live ( is the GSMA’s online media service. It is a fast-growing arm of the GSMA responsible for editorial services including the Mobile World Live Daily e-newsletter, weekly e-newsletters focused on the apps, devices and money space, an Asia regional edition and Chinese, Spanish & French language editions. In addition, the division produces Mobile World Live TV, the official broadcast service of Mobile World Congress, and is the official media service (TV/Show Daily newspapers) for all Mobile World Congress and Mobile 360 events. Over the past year the business has also launched a successful new portfolio of products (webinars/whitepapers/ebooks etc) supporting industry clients.

Role Overview

Primary objectives:

  • Strengthen the Mobile World Live brand in the US to become the region’s leading B2B mobile industry news source
  • Work with US Sales Manager to identify revenue-generating opportunities and oversee new commercial client projects (freelance budget available)

The jobholder will work across a number of areas and the job will include:

  • Editorial duties for the daily industry enewsletter; news content creation, blog and analysis report writing
  • On-camera presenting (interviewing, feature production)
  • Assisting in the production and onsite delivery of the Mobile World Congress Show Daily newspapers (Barcelona, San Francisco) and regional Mobile 360 events
  • Managing social media strategy for US editorial content
  • Managing US-based client projects such as whitepapers, webinars, surveys etc. Build regional base of high quality freelancers
  • Hands-on creative input into the growth and development of the publishing operation, including the potential launch of a US-targeted enewsletter
  • Attend US-based industry events for content production purposes


The role is homeworking based. International travel will be required occasionally, as well as quarterly travel to the GSMA Ltd US office in Atlanta.

The jobholder will report into the Managing Editor.

Person Specification

You will have:

  • A minimum of 3 years in an Editorial, Research, Analyst or Marcomms role

  • A high degree of technology industry knowledge, with experience gained from working in or closely with the mobile telecommunications sector

  • The ability to write about technical issues in a clear and concise fashion across a range of copy (news, features, interviews, analysis, case studies)

  • First-class contacts across the US mobile ecosystem and an established reputation/profile amongst peers

  • Experience of launching new media products and fostering growth from a loyal readership

  • Experience of managing client projects generating commercial revenue

  • The ability to work under pressure on multiple projects and produce high quality products to deadline

  • A flexible and adaptive approach to home-based work. Proactivity and considerable drive and initiative. Able to work on own as well as within a team of reporters in different timezones

  • First class communication skills. Confidence to appear on camera and stage.
