GSMA – Industry Purpose: Connecting Everyone and Everything to a Better Future

In 2016, the mobile industry became the first sector as a whole to commit to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The mobile industry is already affecting all 17 Goals as outlined in Mobile Industry Impact Report published during UNGA in September 2016. The mobile industry is now focused on amplifying and accelerating the industry’s impact in achieving the SDGs, and the new Big Data for Social Good initiative has been announced at Mobile World Congress this Feb.

With our ambition to connect everyone and everything to a better future, it means we must have a vision to lead all industries in sustainably achieving the SDGs by connecting all citizens to a better future. There is no other industry better place to make this commitment.

The 3 key focus of the Industry Purpose campaign are:

1.  To establish mobile industry consensus around responsible leadership and business practices, while continuing to innovate and deliver impact globally in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.

2.  To lead, evangelise and support global and national government, institutions and organisations in driving the SDGs.

3.  Inform and excite consumers and employees across the mobile ecosystem about the role the mobile industry is playing in delivering against the SDGs, while also empowering them to take an active role too.
