The GSMA - Our role in the mobile industry

The GSMA represents the interests of the worldwide mobile operator community. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators as its members, as well as linking them with more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem (including; handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations).

Mobile for Development: To date GSMA M4D’s work has impacted over 30 million lives across 49 countries. Mobile is the single technology which cuts across geographies, cultures and incomes levels and we expect the impact on emerging markets to grow exponentially.

We are looking for a creative and energetic candidate to undertake a 4 month paid internship with the GSMA Ecosystem Accelerator programme team starting late May/early June. The programme supports innovative start-ups in emerging markets and promotes partnerships between operators in order to increase the reach of impactful mobile services.

The role will be to coordinate and support the teams across marketing, events and support in the programme’s management as well as the Innovation Fund. This includes (and is not limited to):

  • Event Coordination (e.g. Mobile World Congress, Mobile 360 Series etc) including drafting/ collating content on behalf of the programme and managing all logistics (room planning, collateral etc).

  • Manage the Grantee Bootcamp (3 day event in Tanzania, July 2017 e.g. invites, visa letters, speaker briefing packs etc.)

  • Manage and file email inboxes on behalf of the programme and Innovation Fund

  • Support the management of the GSMA’s Expert Volunteer Network, for example, managing volunteer emails / trackers. Design, manage and support GSMA’s Expert Volunteer ‘innovation sessions’ (internal sessions were staff can convene and discuss the latest trends of mobile innovation in emerging markets)

  • Stakeholder and contact management for the programme, e.g. managing Salesforce for events

  • Preparing presentations, meeting coordination/minutes and briefing notes on behalf of the Head of Ecosystem Accelerator and the team throughout the Innovation Fund Process

  • Financial: process supplier forms, purchase orders, invoice management and provide administrative support on legal processes

  • Maintain travel management for the GSMA Foundation (for reporting to DFID)

  • Input to donor reports for both internal and external stakeholders, such as DFID and DFAT
