GSMA – Our Role

The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations. The GSMA also produces industry-leading events such as the Mobile World Congress and Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

In addition, the GSMA also embraces more than 200 major vendors, partners and suppliers to the industry as Associate Members. These include many of the world’s leading mobile brands, from Ericsson, Samsung, LG and Huawei to major content and internet companies.  Furthermore, we are established as a major inter-industry resource, partnering with those sectors seeking to leverage mobile to reach their strategic goals, for example financial services. Finally, we engage with a wide range of governments, & regulators, NGO’s, for example The World Bank or UN and philanthropic organisations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The GSMA is governed by a 25 member board, comprising CEO level representatives from many of the world's leading mobile operators, among them AT&T, Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, NTTDoCoMo, Orange, Telefonica, Telecom Italia-TIM, T-Mobile International and the Vodafone Group.

The GSMA's work is focused on three areas:

Mobile Broadband - Development of a ubiquitous Mobile Broadband infrastructure and the proliferation of devices that will connect the world’s population to the Internet.
Mobile Lifestyle - Creation of innovative services and experiences that are delivered on the mobile infrastructure and unite the attributes of the web and communications world.
Mobile Planet - Leverage mobility to help enrich and improve the lives of individuals across the developing world, bringing services to these markets in a socially responsible manner.

The Role

The IT Delivery Manager role is a key part of the IT team supporting the planning, delivery and reporting of the IT elements of Mobile World Congress IT.

Primarily the role will ensure the successful delivery of the IT elements of Mobile World Congress in conjunction with our partners Fira and internal stakeholders.

This role focuses on managing the delivery of core elements to the event, business initiatives and service enhancements with focus on exhibitor and attendee experience, including Business Case and Requirements Analysis of existing service mix as well as future initiatives. 

The chosen candidate will be the key interface between the GSMA and our delivery partners at Fira, and represent the needs of the exhibitor and attendee alongside the GSMA initiatives.  Involvement, support and participation in onsite event delivery is also a critical requirement of this role.

Further, the role will work closely with internal GSMA teams; namely the Event Technology team, the Programme office and GSMA industry project teams to ensure we aid and deliver showcase elements.

 

Criteria for Selection

  • Good grounding and understanding of technology & pressures that a large event places on networks, infrastructure etc
  • Experience in delivering large scale technical projects, preferably within the events industry.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workloads, work on own initiative and to tight deadline
  • Superior communication and written presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, customers, vendors across international boundaries.
  • Ability to network and gain industry knowledge, including an ‘over the horizon’ view
  • Ability to represent and be passionate for both exhibitor and attendee interests
  • Experience in a Mobile Telecommunications Industry is an advantage
  • Fluency in English & Spanish (Catalan) - written & spoken essential
  • Computing based degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Creative problem solver with a practical, solution focused approach.
  • Be proficient (intermediate level or above) in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Cultural and professional experience of working with a matrix led global team and time-zone management.

 

About the IT Team

The Event IT Team play an extremely important role in ensuring GSMA’s clients and members, who regularly participate at our events, are satisfied with the technical services that we provide and enable them to successfully undertake their business at the event with a great experience.

Current events the GSMA portfolio include, but are not limited to; Mobile World Congress, Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Mobile World Congress Americas, Mobile 360 Series and the Event Team, of which this role is a large part of, delivers to this portfolio.
