GSMA – The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for further developing the GSMA’s relationships with an assigned list of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in North America and assisting collaboration between local operating businesses and in-market ecosystem players.

The GSMA’s desired outcome is to build long-term relationships with key organizational decision makers building consensus around our entire agenda including the GSMA’s Vision 2020 and Advocacy programs.

You will be responsible for identifying key stakeholders within the North American MNOs, then build and maintain influential relationships, while supporting delivery of the GSMA’s primary objectives.

The role will require internal coordination with the wider GSMA teams including the GSMA programs working on the Internet of Things (IoT) IP Communications and Personal Data. Additionally, there may be some coordination with the GSMA Government & Regulatory group, Mobile for Development and Marketing & Events teams. All to ensure the proper operator engagement is taking place across all relevant GSMA activities.

As a primarily customer facing position the candidate can expect to travel up to 50% of the time.

Core Deliverables

  • Build and manage impactful local industry executive relationships within an assigned list of MNOs in the North American region. The primary focus will be the MNOs, with secondary focus on players in the wider ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain an account plan for your assigned MNOs to assure alignment and collaboration with the GSMA based on an in-depth understanding of the MNOs current business environment and their short and long-term business objectives.
  • Execute a strategy that will accelerate the engagement and development of GSMA and industry initiatives within the North American region and the achievement of GSMA program KPIs.
  • Communicate the industry and GSMA’s short and long term priorities to internal and external stakeholders, including senior level executives
  • Assist in setting up and facilitating regular cross-operator executive roundtables to accelerate regional alignment on relevant industry topics
  • Represent the GSMA at leading mobile events, including the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress Americas, GSMA North American Mobile 360 event and other events in North America.
  • Engage with GSMA member services and support acquisition of new members and retention of existing members.
  • Responsible for regional reporting in accordance with HQ requirements, presenting progress against regional KPIs and defining corrective action where appropriate.
  • Responsible for delivering within the annual regional budget allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with all GSMA polices processes and procedures.

Criteria for Selection

Ideal candidates for this role will have the following experience:

  • Relationship – you will be an excellent relationship builder with an eye for delivery of short and long term results and have a clear track record of influencing senior executives
  • Wireless Telecommunications industry – you will have worked in the wireless telecommunications industry, for an MNO and have a recent, extensive understanding of MNO operations, market trends, product development and industry priorities
  • Organizational decisions making – you will have a proven track record of navigating multiple departments in an organization and facilitating consensus on strategic initiatives
  • Account Planning – You will have experience with the major account planning process, having developed and executed account plans successfully
  • Strategy – you will be a strategic thinker with experience working within a strategy function or on strategic projects within the wireless telecommunications industry working for an MNO
  • Delivery – you will have a proven track record of successful project delivery
  • International – you will have the experience and ability to work in an international environment.  There will be some international travel and you will be willing to travel internationally, including at short notice.
  • Communications skills - Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Presentation skills – you will have experience presenting to senior internal and external stakeholders gaining buy-in to your recommendations.  You will have experience managing executive relationships and building strong and lasting business relationships both internal and external to the GSMA.
  • Project management - Excellent project management and facilitation skills.
  • Education - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
