GSMA – Our Role

The GSMA represents the interests of the worldwide mobile operator community. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators as its members, as well as linking them with more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem (including; handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organizations).

The GSMA is focused on innovating, incubating and creating new opportunities for its membership, all with the end goal of driving the growth of the mobile communications sector and the role of operators within it. In addition, we work with Governments, regulators and NGO’s to develop the social and economic value of mobile on a country, region and global basis. Finally we operate and produce the world leading Mobile World Congress and its sister events.

The GSMA is governed by a 26 member board, comprising CEO level representatives from the world's leading mobile operators, among them AT&T, Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, NTTDoCoMo, Orange, Telefónica, Telecom Italia-TIM, Deutsche Telecom and the Vodafone Group.

The Role

  • Work closely with GSMA Europe team, GSMA programmes and marketing team to develop and expand the diverse events plan (e.g. Mobile Meetings Series, targeted policy platforms and workshops, Mobile360 Europe)
  • Coordinate EU institutional and team programme in lead up to/at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
  • Closely monitor EU events across mobile and adjacent sectors and identify, assess and advise on cross sector cooperation
  • Manage GSMA Europe’s advocacy work towards the EU institutions through outreach programme coordination, meeting attendance and reporting as required
  • Representation at events with EU officials, GSMA operator and associate members and third party stakeholders
  • Build a network of relationships with public policy makers and other ecosystem players
  • Development of communications material; agency liaison
  • Database management


Criteria for Selection

  • Degree in communications and/or public affairs
  • 2 - 4 years’ solid work experience, preferably in a communications or government relations role.
  • Corporate, Political, Agency, Association, or NGO background
  • Expert proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Communicative
  • Creative, solid experience with digital communication tools
  • Critical, strategic thinker
  • Efficient, detail orientated, result focussed project manager
  • Flexible, collaborative initiator
  • Enthusiasm, persuasiveness
