The GSMA Identity and Personal Data programme and Mobile Connect

The Identity & Personal Data Programme is one of GSMA’s three major industry initiatives. The Programme works together with Mobile Operators – to deliver digital authentication and identity solutions to the global market that are convenient, secure and privacy protecting – “Mobile Connect”. Mobile Connect is a global service that covers use cases across many business verticals as well as security levels.

Mobile Connect is delivered as a service by the Mobile Operators. Its customers are the Service Providers (relying parties) who embed it into their digital services to help their end-users to log-in and confirm their identity. Mobile Connect is a new service in the market and is looking to grow by building an eco-system of partners and customers. When successful and scaled globally, Mobile Connect will significantly change the way digital services are consumed by end-users, offered by Service Providers and supported by Mobile Operators.

GSMA – Mobile Connect Service Provider Engagement Director

The Service Provider Engagement Director is leading the efforts to drive interest and commercial deployments of Mobile Connect among global providers of digital services. The role spans activities such as customer and partner lead generation and qualification, coordination of engagement between digital service providers and mobile operators, and developing and managing a structured business development and sales process globally. The Service Provider Engagement Director will also act as advisor for operators on how to develop sales activities in their local markets.

The role reports to Head of Programme and is part of the Programme Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for managing a small team (service provider outreach and delivery support managers). The role is based in London and involves considerable travel.

Criteria for Selection

The work is highly complex and requires deep experience from building and shaping businesses as well as from sales and facilitating collaboration. The following will be essential to succeed:

  • Significant experience (5-10+ years) in delivering new online and mobile services to the market, preferably in identity and/or online security and/or financial services
  • Business development experience gained in fast-growth start-up environment
  • Demonstrable results in sales and ecosystem management and in building and managing a sales team
  • Deep understanding of how to build a digital services business and attracting relying parties
  • Understanding of mobile telecommunications industry’s value and business model
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial strategies of the Internet industry 
  • “Can do” attitude – actively looking for new solutions, appetite to take on challenges and ability to bring the team along.

Thus we are looking for passionate, self-driven individuals that have a structured and persistent way of working both alone and as part of a global team. You need to be able to effectively communicate across different levels and functions – from experts to top management.

The successful candidate needs to be fluent in English. Other languages would be helpful but not mandatory due to the international nature of the role.
