GSMA – Our Organisation

The GSMA is the operator-led trade body for the global mobile industry. Our membership includes more than 800 network operators that provide mobile communications services across more than 213 countries to over 3 billion consumers (85% of the world’s digital mobile market).

In addition, the GSMA also embraces more than 200 major vendors, partners and suppliers to the industry as Associate Members. These include many of the world’s leading mobile brands, from Ericsson, Nokia, LG and Huawei to major content and internet companies.  Furthermore, we are established as a major inter-industry resource, partnering with those sectors seeking to leverage mobile to reach their strategic goals, for example financial services. GSMA – Finance

GSMA is a complex, diverse and global organisation. The delivery of best in class finance is critical to the performance and growth of the organisation. The finance team is tightly integrated into the organisation, highly respected and utilized in a range of operational and strategic roles.

GSMA – The Role

This role is a member of the Finance Business Partnering Team with a dotted line to support the Chief Technology Officer, although could support any function within the organisation.

This person will be key to  the delivery of the financial business plan linked to operational objectives through the provision of strategic support, performance analysis, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, identification of risks and opportunities and scenario analysis.

Focus on three Key Technology based programmes and Departmental staffing & other costs totaling circ. £23m.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely and accurate management information and support the business in delivering the budgets and forecast, communicating with the business on trends, drivers and other movements.
  • Support, challenge and influence the business in understanding the financial implications of key commercial decisions.
  • Lead procurement tender processes, using your financial experience and commercial acumen to ensure the GSMA achieves the best commercial outcomes
  • Ensure that business requirements are understood, communicated and reflected in reporting and analysis.
  • Report on performance and drive action to facilitate achievement of business & financial objectives. Provide analysis and advice on cost drivers, KPIs and measures.
  • Ensure that the financial processes and controls are well understood and communicated. Monitor compliance to ensure robust financial control environment and to ensure consistency.
  • Identify cost efficiency opportunities and lead execution in partnership with business unit executives.
  • Work with the wider finance team to drive continuous improvement in the use of the company’s finance processes & systems e.g. forecasting cycles and budget process.
  • Liaise with finance colleagues in financial control to consider regulatory, capital accounting and tax implications.

 

Criteria for Selection

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Demonstrated ability to think commercially and assist stakeholders to achieve operational objectives
  • Advanced Excel, ability to create complex financial models to drive scenarios analysis
  • Ability to leverage financial systems to extract and manipulate data to interrogate financial performance
  • Strong stakeholder management with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong written and oral communication, ability to liaise effectively with senior stake holders
  • Solutions focused mentality
  • Experience in an international organisation and understanding of foreign exchange implications
  • Collaborative team player
