The GSMA is the global industry association that helps shape the future of the mobile industry. Our mission is to act as a guiding beacon for the mobile industry, focusing on activities where collective action can deliver significant benefit. We drive collaborative industry programmes aimed at maintaining operator relevance in the digital world
We advocate for the industry to regulators, policy makers and society as a whole
We convene the broad mobile communications ecosystem at our industry leading events

Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations. The GSMA is focused on innovating, incubating and creating new opportunities for its membership, all with the end goal of driving the growth of the mobile communications industry.

The GSMA is also established as a major inter-industry resource, collaborating with industries across the mobile ecosystem in order to enable growth through mobile technologies, programmes and frameworks.

Our organisation engages with a wide range of governments, regulators and NGOs (such as The World Bank, UN and philanthropic organisations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) to develop the social and economic value of mobile for countries, regions and continents.

We convene the mobile industry at our leading events such as Mobile World Congress Americas, Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Mobile World Congress 360 Series and the world leading Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

GSMA – Our Programme Services Department

The GSMA's work is focused across a number of areas. These roles will sit within the Programme Services team whose work is arranged around a number of programmes. Examples include:

Connected Living: Developing services within the “Internet of things”, with use cases in the industry, health, education, automotive industries and a related focus on “Big Data” and “AI”
Personal Data: Launching SIM-based secure mobile identity services for use to support financial, governmental and commercial applications
Network 2020: This programme looks at the development of all IP mobile networks, along with the initial standards design work related to the development of 5G technology
Advocacy: Focusing on developing the capacity of governments to effectively regulate and manage mobile networks and mobile services in order to promote economic growth
Mobile for Development: Bringing together our mobile operator members, the wider mobile industry and the development community to deliver mobile services to underserved people in predominantly emerging markets

 

GSMA – The Role

Our roles are specifically targeted at placement students and the GSMA is aware that applicants will have limited working experience. Successful candidates will be allowed the time to learn the job and will be supported and developed throughout the placement. A competitive salary will be paid for the 12 months of the student placement.

You will be supporting the delivery of a number of projects that make up our programmes. The PMO helps manage programme plans, monitor and manage risk, report progress and manage industry wide relationships and contacts.

We deliver our projects by partnering with mobile operators as well as (occasionally) other companies from the respective ecosystem. The roles will involve:

  • Supporting marketing campaigns to generate awareness and qualified sales leads
  • Help deliver projects related to GSMA trade shows and existing customer and internal communications
  • Supporting the development and management of project plans, risks & issues
  • Helping to arrange and manage project team meetings, including key external stakeholders
  • Managing project documentation to maintain cross-programme collaboration
  • Helping to monitor and manage project and programme finances, from finding suppliers and raising purchase orders to tracking and forecasting spend against forecasts
  • Actively engaging to gather and present management reports to programme sponsors
  • Supporting colleagues delivering projects related to industry conferences and exhibitions

 

Criteria for Selection

SKILLS

  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment which requires effective team work to deliver results
  • A demonstrable passion for mobile-based technology, products and services
  • Experience of working / studying with people from different cultures and countries
  • An ability to work under pressure at times and to deliver to exacting deadlines
  • Experience & skills in using Excel for budget tracking and management
  • Excellent communication skills on an individual or group basis, including strong spoken and written English, demonstrated through clear writing and the ability to understand instructions and effectively undertake allocated tasks
  • Evidence of focus on achieving goals and delivering high quality outputs on time
  • Ability to forge strong and lasting business relationships which can be passed onto colleagues at the end of the placement period
  • Capacity to confidence in colleagues and managers, through enthusiasm and work ethic

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be studying for or have completed a degree in a related subject within the last year, i.e. Communications, Management, Marketing related subject.
  • You must have a minimum of 280 UCAS points
  • You must be eligible to work in the UK
