Marketing Manager, Mobile Money

We are looking for a creative and energetic Marketing Manager to lead the planning and delivery of all marketing for our Mobile Money Programme.  The Mobile Money Programme works with specific target countries globally and with key industry stakeholders within each of these target markets to help promote the benefits of interoperable mobile money services and accelerate the ecosystem within digital financial services. The Mobile Money Programme also provides proof points to the industry of the social impact that mobile money has in developing markets.

The Marketing Manager reports to the Marketing Director, Mobile for Development, Regions and Digital and sits in the Mobile for Development marketing team, working closely and coordinating cross-programme themes and activities with the other Mobile for Development marketing leads. The Mobile for Development marketing team sits within the wider GSMA Advocacy marketing team.

The Marketing Manager works closely with the Mobile Money team and Operations Director, to understand the objectives and programme deliverables and so ensure that marketing campaigns and activities drive awareness of the GSMA’s work in mobile money.



  • Develop and implement an annual marketing plan that promotes and enhances the work of the Mobile Money team, developing engaging marketing content to influence stakeholders to support them to achieve success against business goals
  • Ensure that the marketing plan is executed, keeping key internal stakeholders, both internal and external, informed of progress
  • Help deliver Mobile for Development and Mobile Money marketing strategy by providing consistently high quality collateral that is innovative, on-brand and designed to showcase the teams’ content in the best light possible.
  • Develop and deliver compelling multimedia and social media stories, highlighting the social impact of our mobile operator members.
  • In partnership with external design agencies, proactively lead and manage the design, production and print of all mobile money collateral outputs, including timelines and budgets, such as guidelines and toolkits, white papers, reports, case-studies and executive summaries, written by the relevant in-team experts and / or external partners.
  • Lead Mobile Money project marketing for all key events – Mobile World Congress, Mobile 360 series and relevant external events, including theme and speaker suggestions and the framing of content and related messaging.
  • Responsible for content planning, copywriting and working with Mobile Money Knowledge Management to distribute newsletters, reports and blogs.
  • Work closely with internal GSMA departments such as Marketing, PR, GSMA Ltd. (events activity), Advocacy and Mobile for Development to ensure that Mobile Money is branded and positioned appropriately for all audiences and to maximise media opportunities.
  • Help to structure marketing partnerships and campaigns with the broader development community in support of our goals.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Extensive communications and marketing background, developing and implementing B2B marketing plans that deliver tangible impact, with comprehensive measures to determine success.
  • A proven track record of proposition development and the ability to influence and add value to your area of business.
  • Strong writing skills: messaging, leadership positioning and narrative development.
  • Experienced story teller and visual campaigner.
  • Deep understanding of and hands-on management of optimising web and social media content
  • Experience delivering and promoting marketing outputs such as guidelines and toolkits, white papers, reports, case-studies and executive summaries.
  • Experience working in an international environment, preferable in international development, including experience in the application of technology and communications in the reduction of poverty in emerging markets.
  • Segmentation of global audiences/ influencers and the creation of targeted messaging for each segment.
  • Substantive and demonstrable track record of high quality corporate marketing delivery in complex and challenging business-to-business environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and Power Point).
  • Demonstrable experience of working with multiple internal stakeholders and with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Proven negotiation skills and experience in managing external suppliers and agencies
  • Willing to travel, should the role require it.
  • Exceptional degree-level academic credentials.
